Writes about strength, conditioning, motor skills and physiology.
I’ve been a sports nut since my childhood in Rome. I kept up competitive swimming and basketball until the age of 10. After that it was all about basketball- such a fast-paced, all-action, quick-thinking sport! I loved the position as playmaker for a Serie A team and I still enjoy watching. The pro career was cut short by a dislocated shoulder. That was my way into weightlifting, which has become another passion. I coach Olympic weightlifting and Crossfit for all ages and I wrote my physical science dissertation on correlations between clean and jerk and flat bench press. Lifting is technical, but so addictive!
I’ve seen the best and the worst of professional sports. As an athlete and as a coach my motto is Mens sana in corpore sano – a healthy mind in a healthy body.
